Hard Fought Podium For TVR

He went in to last Saturdays Firecracker 50 as favorite, but at the end of the battle TVR’s Craig Vosbergen walked away with a hard earned second place finish.

The night started brilliantly for Craig as he showed to the rest of the LMRA teams just how strong the Worldwide Construction Machinery/Racin Tyres & Accessories #8 Rocket was during the opening two heats. Two wins in as many races rewarded the hard working team who had the chassis working to perfection on the fast 500 metre bowl that is Manjimup Speedway.

Craig’s two wins was the result he needed to earn enough points to start from pole in the big T.L. Dozing fifty lap main, and it also earmarked him as favorite prior to the evenings feature event.

Team mate Bert Vosbergen backed up Craig with a brilliant victory in his opening heat. The veteran did it the hard way coming form behind to take the win in what would be one of his best drives for the year so far. He then backed up this result with seventh in his second heat giving him a third row start in the A-Main.

The pace was a fast and furious from the start to the finish of the fifty lap final, and Craig was amongst it all the way. His battle with Brad Blake and Marc Giancola was a classic, with all three swapping positions all race long.

About mid race distance after some brilliant racing mid pack, Bert was to succumb to mechanical problems that left his Worldwide Construction Machinery/Royal Wolf #4 Rocket finishing the race on the infield and officially fourteenth place at this monster event.

Craig had dropped back to as low as third, but as the race wore on he started to find a groove and was closing on Blake only to receive some damage at around lap 35 when he made contact with a lapped car, causing the steering to become heavy and making it more difficult to race his #8 Rocket.

“That was an awesome car I had there until about lap 35 when I come together with Mark Matthews coming out of two and bent something in the front” he said, after the grueling fifty lapper. “Hey I’m not making any excuses. We had terrific race with Brad but traffic was the story. I’m thankful we put on a good show, have a reasonably straight race car and got a good result for my crew and my sponsors.”

Now it’s time to head back to the shop, prepare the cars and head on down to Albany for the first time in a Late Model for Team Vosbergen Racing, next Saturday the 13th of December for round three of the Champion Industries Pro Dirt Series.
